Pediatric Support House
Greatest Achievements.
1. Reuniting Families:
Two brothers were reunited with their families at the end of the school year and now they live in the Minas Gerais state.
2. Health:
All the children at Viva Cazuza Foundation see a doctor three times a week plus whatever necessary). They are 100% committed to stay healthy.
3. Education:
Three teenagers are now studying at the Faetec technical school, being one at the middle school level and another, at the high school.
In 2009 the Luíza Abranches private school located at Rua Paissandu, 384 in the Laranjeiras neighborhood was still offering a 75% discount on its monthly tuition for 13 Viva Cazuza Foundation whom attend such school at different levels.
Viva Cazuza Foundation also has four children enrolled at the Anne Frank Municipal school, attending first grade.
Also, English courses have been continued at Viva Cazuza Foundation for all children attending high school.
Reducing the failing rate at school and improving children’s learning abilities.
4. Social Integration:
Two teenagers from Viva Cazuza Foundation were invited to attend a summer camp for HIV positive children and teenagers from several countries in Pennsylvania, (United States) where they spent 10 days.
Two other female teenagers also attended a meeting in Paraty, (Rio de Janeiro state) for HIV positive teenagers.
Activities developed by the Support House:
1. The Support house, (Casa de Apoio) started its activities in 2009 with 19 living in children, plus two more that came later and two more that were readmitted after being out.
2. Until December of 2009, there were 423, (four hundred and twenty three doctor consultations, (exclusively tailored for HIV positive patients.
3. 51 (fifty one) dental consultations
4. 125 (one hundred twenty five consultation with a psychologist.
5. 146, (one hundred and forty six) consultations for speech therapy.
6. Supplying 38.325 meals.
7. Supplying specific medicines for HIV and more generic medicines, whatever necessary.
8. All children and teenagers do “Capoeira”, (an Afro-Brazilian martial art) classes every Friday.
9. Children attended 96 English classes per year.
10. The under age children attend public school.
11. Three teenagers attend regularly a gym at the Laranjeiras neighborhood tuition free.
12.One teenager is studying for free at the Werner Salon to become a hairdresser.

14.Viva Cazuza Foundation also counts with a team of volunteers which includes:

15.The age of the Children that live at Viva Cazuza Foundation ranges from 4 to 17 years old.
With a permanent core of children from the beginning, it became a natural choice to develop and recreate a structure based on a family.
The children all believe that Viva Cazuza Foundation is at the same their home and where their families are.
16. Since the majority of the kids who live at Viva Cazuza Foundation are either pre-teens and teenagers, it was decided that on weekends they should spend time with school mates plus visits to parks, the beach, theatres, movies, fast food joints and restaurants.
17. Cultural Activities inside and out of Viva Cazuza Foundation.
18.Seminars at the public and private schools that the children attend aiming at reducing and or stop prejudice towards those who are HIV positive and to contribute for better social integration.
19. Social interaction between the family of the children of the Viva Cazuza Foundation and the staff, with frequent meetings oriented to provide useful information to those who are HIV positive regarding health issues, what to do in cases of disability, retirement for health reasons and most important, supply medicines when necessary and if such medicines are not available through the government. Viva Cazuza Foundation also gives food to those who are hungry.
All the services at the pediatric support unit/Casa de Apoio are FREE OF CHARGE.
